David Lloyd seconds hammered title rivals Bubwith in division 4 of the Fulford Ladies Invitation Tennis League. Kate Greswold and Fiona White taking 29 games, though they were bettered by team mates Lisa Garland and Liz Taylor in their victory, which virtually assures them of the title. Things remain tight at the foot of the table, Margaret Evans and Linda Moore included a 12-0 in Popp’s win over Sutton to help their team climb the table. Dunnington 3 recorded a positive result against Boston Spa, which included a 26 game tally from Sarah Grinell and Linda Malloy, so they remain in the fight.
Poppleton’s erratic season in division 1 continued as they were only able to field two couples against Dunnington, crashing to a 90-18 defeat. York 1, on the other hand, carry on demonstrating perfect consistency in their results, this time trouncing Bish 84-24. David Lloyd look likely candidates for the drop as they went down 45-63 at Pocklington, for whom Helen Whilesmith and Liz Jones bagged 23 games. Siobhan Gilfillan and Caroline White were in form for York 2 in their 65-43 win against Starbeck, a victory which ensures the Clifton Park team will remain in the top flight.
Fulford 1 have claimed the division 2 crown, ever present captain Jill McCreedy teamed up with Kelly Spry to lead her team to a comfortable win against Dunnington. Rufforth remain second after defeating Pocklington, a point ahead of Castlegarth, whose 58-50 victory at Wigginton included a 23 game haul from Yvonne Mannell and Helen Robinson. Consistent scores from all three Boston Spa couples saw them overcome bottom club Cliffe 75-33.
Sisters Rachel and Sarah Huggins won 33 games in division 3 table toppers Wistow’s victory against relegation threatened Appleton. Castlegarth and Copmanthorpe remain strong contenders for promotion after both achieved victories against Fulford 2 and Tollerton respectively. Margaret Sykes and Loopy Parker won 25 games in Knaresborough’s precious win over Rowntree Park, a result which elevates them towards mid table safety.
Heworth returned to the top of division 5 after Anne Gray and Chris Vis claimed 25 games in their win at Wilberfoss. Bishopthorpe stay in the battle at the top after a 74-34 win against already relegated Knaresborough. Cawood’s 62-46 triumph over Cop 2 could well prove crucial in their battle to stay up.
Suzanne Straw and Joy Craig won 31 games in division 6 for leaders David Lloyd in their team’s demolition of Dunnington. Fulford 3 had a comprehensive victory over struggling Stamford Bridge so look likely to be promoted. Jo Allerton and Wendy Battle claimed 28 games in Popp’s 76-32 win over Appleton, this leaves Popp with an outside chance of promotion and Appleton struggling near the base of the table.
Bubwith 2 look favourites to be champions of division 7 after a resounding victory over Wilberfoss. David Lloyd 4 appear likely to go up after Jean Laver and Elizabeth Bradley took 30 games in their 76-32 win against Rufforth.
