Wiggington remain top of division 5 of the Fulford Ladies Invitation Tennis League despite dropping points in their home match against Riccall, Michelle Hall and Sophie Marshman scoring 24 games to snatch a draw for the visitors. Fulford 3 continue to impress as the only unbeaten team in the division, Georgie Stephenson and Sarah Richards finished undefeated in their 57-51 win at Wilberfoss. Cawood notched up their first points of the season, Lesley Savage and Sarah Lee Neeson taking 11 games in their final rubber to see their team home to a 56-52 win against David Lloyd 3.

The York machine rumbles on at the top of division 1, this week’s star performers being Jill Le Pla and Fay Chapman, who racked up 32 games in their team’s demolition of Bishopthorpe. Pocklington look to be establishing themselves as a very handy top half team, all three of their couples making significant contributions in their comfortable victory over York seconds. Jo Middleton and Anna Baker took 33 games for Fulford as they cruised to an emphatic 87-21 win against bottom team Poppleton.

Rufforth grabbed valuable points in their mid-table division 2 clash with Dunnington, captain Kate Lewis and partner Christine Edmond led from the front winning all their rubbers in the 58-50 victory. Diane Lang and Becci Jones bagged 26 games for Starbeck in their triumph over Boston Spa, while David Lloyd overcame Wigginton 59-49.

David Lloyd remain top of division 3 despite going down 46 – 62 at Knaresborough. Jo Earl and Valerie Bell were in form for Cliffe as they celebrated their first win of the campaign against local rivals Bubwith. Copmanthorpe stay in touch with the leaders, Rhian Scott and Sarah Atkinson bagging 26 games, in their victory over Pocklington. Rowntree Park were again only able to field two couples so crashed to a heavy defeat at Fulford.

Lynn Kent and Ann Hopwood amassed 24 games in Copmanthorpe’s comfortable victory over Bubwith in division 6, so they remain top. Poppleton 3 are hard on their heels after scores of twenty plus from all three couples enabled them to see off bottom placed Dunnington.

Although Natalie Muir and Kim Lees only dropped a couple of games for Stamford Bridge, it wasn’t enough to inspire their team to victory over division 7 leaders Rufforth. York 3 remain unbeaten after inflicting a heavy defeat on a depleted Wilberfoss side.

 

The League was saddened to hear about the death of Jean Cross last week. Jean was one of the founder members of the FLITL and was a talented player and active member at Fulford TC for many years. Thoughts and sympathies are with her family at this difficult time.

Press Report – Week 4

David Lloyd 2 trounced a depleted Rowntree Park team so top division 3 of the Fulford Ladies Invitation League, Dinah Burke and Fiona White, achieving a perfect score of 36 games. Pocklington’s pairs performed consistently in their team’s tight win over Bubwith, whilst Rhian Scott and Laura Simpson led the way in Copmanthorpe’s 63-45 victory over Knaresborough. Fulford 2 chalked up their first win of the season against lowly Cliffe, Charlotte O’ Shea and Susan Scott bagging 12 games in their second rubber.

Emma Loten and Alex Bolam took 31 games in Dunnington’s division 1 demolition of Bishopthorpe. Castlegarth were indebted to Rachel Hill and Yvonne Mannall, who scored 28 games as Garth fought out a draw with York 2. Elsewhere, Fulford went down to a heavy defeat against Pocklington, who again were inspired by Rebecca Hill and Victoria Bland.

Wigginton’s good start to the season continues in division 2, Sarah Blacker and Lorainne Waudby were undefeated in Wig’s 63-45 win at Rufforth. David Lloyd 1 remain top after their 67-41 victory over Wistow. Mum and daughter, Trish and Angie Bell finished unbeaten for Castlegarth in their win over local rivals Boston Spa.

Lucy Collier and Sally Simpson assisted Sutton to their first victory of the campaign at Tollerton in division 4. Elsewhere, Nicky Georgiou and Jean White were unbeaten for New Earswick as they overcame second placed Heworth. It’s Boston Spa who top the pile though after beating Poppleton 58-50.

Poppleton 3 maintained their 100% record in division 6, Edie Jones and Sue Jones led the way as Popp overcame Bubwith 61-47. Jacqui Crawley and Jean Leaver scored 24 games in David Lloyd’s victory at Dunnington, whilst struggling Sheriff went down to a heavy defeat at Knaresborough.

Rufforth top division 7, Wendy Farnell and Vicky Wrigley making a significant contribution in their team’s triumph at Wilberfoss. York’s good start continued as they defeated Copmanthorpe 57-51. Meanwhile, Trisha Davies and Pauline Connelly scored 33 games as Appleton hammered Stamford Bridge 84-24.

Knaresborough 2 – Achieve their first win in over a year!

Boston Spa top division 4 of the Fulford Ladies Invitation Tennis League. They maintained their 100% record with a 56-52 win at New Earswick, captain Ann McCreesh and Sandy Clough finishing unbeaten. Marilyn Almgill and Chris Howatt bagged 26 games in Appleton’s first win of the season over Heworth. Popp seconds edged a 57-51 victory against Tollerton, whilst Bish got their first points on the board, defeating Sutton 68-40.

Castlegarth couple, Angela Wood and Hetty Albun, achieved the rare feat of finishing unbeaten against York 1, however, it wasn’t enough to defeat the division 1 leaders, who finished as 61-47 victors. A haul of 25 games from Nicola Loten and Kate Reader helped Dunnington to a 55-53 triumph at Pocklington. Fulford logged a first win against Bishopthorpe, meantime, Poppleton continue to struggle, going down 72-36 at York seconds.

Boston Spa upset the form book in division 2, Lorainne Pearey and Lesley Haley starred in Spa’s victory against leaders David Lloyd. Dunnington are second, Sue Sumner and Joyce Rhodes including a 12-0 in their team’s 64-44 defeat of Castlegarth. Starbeck got the better of Rufforth in their mid-table clash.

David Lloyd 2 and Knaresborough remain unbeaten in division 3, DL eased past Cliffe, whilst Janice McMillan and Chantal Lancaster scored 28 games in ‘boro’s 71-37 victory over Bubwith. Pam Campbell and Sarah Richards grabbed a vital 10 games in their final rubber to help Fulford snatch a draw against Copmanthorpe.

Wigginton 2 march on at the top of division 5, Helen Brown and Yvonne Petruso scored 28 games in Wig’s 71-37 defeat of Dunnington. Fulford 3 got the better of the newly promoted teams, beating David Lloyd 61-47, elsewhere, Denise Neary and Michelle Hall top scored for Riccall in their win at Wilberfoss.

Copmanthorpe demolished Sheriff 88-20 so top division 6, Juliette Neylon and Jenny Davis opening with a 12-0 in their first rubber. Knaresborough seconds recorded their first win in over a year, though by the tightest of margins, creeping past Dunnington by a couple of games. David Lloyd 4 had their first victory of the campaign, beating Bubwith 63-45.

League newcomers York 3 started life in division 7 with a victory at Stamford Bridge, captain Jean Jaram and Caroline Mitchell claimed 25 games to see their team home. Copmanthorpe 3 top the table after a hard-fought win against Wilberfoss, whilst Rufforth defeated Appleton 66-42.

Week 2 – Report & Results

David Lloyd 1 breezed past Rufforth 82-26 to top division 2 of the Fulford Ladies Invitation Tennis league, led by captain Sheila Duxbury and league newcomer, Zeyner Aslan, who took 28 games. Wigginton stay unbeaten after a 69-39 victory over Boston Spa, Whilst Trish and Angie Bell were undefeated to steer Castlegarth to their first win of the campaign against Starbeck.

The weekend’s star performers were Pocklington’s Rebecca Hill and Victoria Bland, who only dropped a couple of games in Pock’s division 1 victory at Bishopthorpe. Castlegarth continued their good start with victory at Poppleton. Mother and daughter Karen and Charlotte Mitchell teamed up to score 30 games in Dunnington’s defeat of Fulford. York 1 displayed no sentiment as they thrashed their second team 81-27.

David Lloyd 2 lead division 3 after a 63-45 win at Copmanthorpe, but are matched on points and games difference by Knaresborough, for whom Natasha Quigley and Arina Fjordova were unbeaten in their win against Cliffe. Pocklington produced a strong final rubber to edge a 55-53 victory over Fulford 2, whilst Bubwith logged their first win of the season against Rowntree Park.

In division 4 Tollerton’s Tina Gallon and Pippa Bailey led a consistent team performance to defeat Appleton 60-48. New Earswick had a closer encounter against Bishopthorpe 2, recording a 56-52 win. Kate Butterfield and Simone Deveraux bagged 25 games in Boston Spa’s victory over Sutton. Poppleton 2 were only able to field two couples at Heworth so suffered a heavy defeat.

Fulford 3 are adjusting well to life in division 5, Su Watson and Veronique Knighton took 24 games in the team’s 67-41 defeat of Cawood. Wigginton top the table after a resounding 70-38 win against Wilberfoss, this despite Foss’s Gerry Screeton and Nicola Ramshaw being unbeaten. David Lloyd 3 scored their first points of the season in a tight victory over Dunnington.

Copmanthorpe head division 6, Clare Fuller and Lynda Withers impressed with 28 games in their win at David Lloyd. Poppleton 3 were indebted to Jo Allerton and Helen Hatfield who remained unbeaten in their team’s 59-49 victory at Knaresborough. Bubwith 2 opened their campaign with a 69-39 victory over Sheriff Hutton.

Stamford Bridge are the first leaders of division 7, Natelie Muir and Angela Rothery included a 12-0 in Bridge’s win at Wilberfoss. Copmanthorpe overcame Rufforth by the tightest of margins, Lynda Withers and Imogen Fuller scoring 22 of Cop’s 55 game total.
