Pocklington pulled off the biggest shock of the season so far in the Fulford Ladies Invitation Tennis League by going to reigning division 1 champions York 1 and beating them on home turf. Experienced Ruth Hill and impressive youngster Cordie Cavill starred in a solid team performance to inflict a 56-52 defeat on the Clifton Park team, remarkably their first loss for three years. Dunnington are in second place and are now the only unbeaten team in the division after hammering a depleted York second team 79-29. At the wrong end of the table, Julia Sykes and Jane Parkin helped Bishopthorpe to a 60-48 win at Poppleton, whilst Castlegarth look to be climbing to mid table safety after victory at Fulford.

David Lloyd remain top of division 2, Louise Dwyer and Jo Powell top scoring in a consistent team performance to facilitate a 73-35 win over Castlegarth. Sue Espiner and Denise Crane reunited to bag 30 games for second placed Wigginton in their comprehensive victory over Dunnington, keeping them equal on points with the leaders. Starbeck didn’t drop a rubber as they crushed struggling Wistow, Chris Noddings and Sophie Cousins winning 29 games for the Harrogate based club. Boston Spa overcame Rufforth 66-42 to remain third in the table.

Andrea Bland and Louise Wilkinson were undefeated for division 3 leaders Pocklington in their victory over Cliffe. Rowntree Park logged a surprise win against second place Copmanthorpe, whilst Pam Campbell and Jane Wallace were unbeaten as Fulford 2 gained valuable points in defeating Knaresborough.

In division 4, leaders Boston Spa maintained their 100% record; Sandy Clough and Corrine Vause notching up 29 games in their win against Appleton. Ed Hope and Sandra Jennings netted 22 games for Tollerton as they dispatched New Earswick 64-44. Bishopthorpe 2 sit in third place, Andrene Watson and Jackie Mason claiming 26 games in their 63-45 win against struggling Poppleton 2.

Three teams look to have pulled clear at the top of division 5. Caz MacKender and Helen Brown scored 29 games for leaders Wigginton in their 61-47 defeat of Cawood. Fulford 3 were indebted to Liz Paxman and Pam Mason as they edged past Dunnington 55-53.

Jo Allerton and Helen Hatfield took 22 games as division 6 leaders Poppleton narrowly beat David Lloyd. Jenny Rossington and Ann Murray racked up 28 games for Dunnington 4 in their win over an injury hit Sheriff Hutton.

Appleton and Copmanthorpe 3 fought out a draw in their division 7 mid table clash.

Wig  duo achieve perfection!

Wigginton 1 will be happy to be one of the matches that survived the weather on a rain affected weekend in the FLITL. Denise Crane and Eleanor Bradshaw teamed up for the first time and achieved perfection by winning all 36 games in their team’s victory over Castlegarth. This leaves Wig in second place in division 2, though equal on points with leaders David Lloyd. Elsewhere, Christine Place and Sue Yoward finished unbeaten for Rufforth as they overcame Wistow 65-43. Sheila Stewart and Margaret Lindley led the way for Boston Spa as they recorded a 62-46 win at Dunnington, thus leaving their opponents struggling at the wrong end of the table.

York 2 took the points at Fulford to climb towards mid-table safety in division 1, league debutant Jackie Eccles and experienced partner Margaret Whitehead top scoring for the Clifton Park team. Elsewhere, Charlotte Todd and Yvonne Mannall were unbeaten for Castlegarth as they beat Bishopthorpe 62-46.

Boston Spa remain top of division 4 of the Fulford Ladies Invitation Tennis League, Katie Pirie and Julia Barnes were unbeaten as the team overcame Tollerton to maintain their 100% record. Julia Sykes and Georgina MacKenzie were in form for Bishopthorpe as they beat Heworth 59-49. Appleton remain third despite going down 67-41 at New Earswick.

Winless Poppleton remain in deep trouble at the foot of division 1, this week being trounced by Dunnington who hold second place. York 2 had a valuable victory at Bishopthorpe, whilst Rebecca Hill and Vicky Bland scored 30 games in Pocklington’s 75-33 win over Castlegarth. York 1 welcomed back captain Kathryn Place who teamed up with Karen Retief as the league leaders annihilated Fulford 85-23.

Helen Larkin and Debbie Holman bagged 26 games as division 2 leaders David Lloyd claimed a 60-48 win at Dunnington. Wiggington remain in the hunt after beating Starbeck 57-51. Although they only had two couples, Rufforth made a valiant effort at Castlegarth, going down 57-51. Lesley Haley and Lorainne Pearey were undefeated for Boston Spa in their 59-49 win against Wistow.

Pocklington top division 3 after scraping past David Lloyd seconds 55-53, Andrea Bland and Louise Wilkinson taking a vital 20 games in Pock’s victory. Despite a 29 game haul from Jane Pemberton and Kelly Holmes, Cliffe were unable to capitalise, losing out by just four games to second place Copmanthorpe. Elsewhere, Bubwith got the better of Fulford in their mid-table clash.

Riccall have climbed up to second place in division 5 after a comfortable win over Fulford 3. Suzanne Straw and Michele Cossey amassed 19 games as David Lloyd 3 beat Wilberfoss by the tightest of margins. Dunnington captain Barbara Plummer and Liz Stacey chalked up 23 games in leading their team to a 57-51 triumph at Cawood.

Copmanthorpe and Poppleton remain unbeaten in division 6. Cop hammered struggling Dunnington 81-27, whilst Wendy Battle and Jo Allerton inspired Popp to victory at Sheriff Hutton. Consistent scores from all three couples saw third place Knaresborough home against Bubwith 2.

The top two teams met in division 7, with leaders York 3 winning comfortably at Rufforth, Ilianna Evangliou and Becky Brunton finishing the match undefeated. Meanwhile Wilberfoss beat bottom club Appleton 67-41.
