CLIFFE – Top Division 4

Cliffe top division 4 of the Fulford Ladies Invitational Tennis League after a hard fought 58-50 win at Appleton, Liz Boville and Gayle Bradley contributing with a 12-0 in their first rubber. Mary Foster and Dot Hornby bagged 27 games to ensure Tollerton remain hard on their heels by defeating Wigginton 65-43. Heworth beat Rowntree Park to stay in contention, while Riccall overcame Sutton 61-47.

York 1 already look unstoppable in division 1, Wendy Stirke and Jill Le Pla notching up 30 games as they cruised past Bishopthorpe. Dunnington debutant Hana Saito paired up with Emma Loten to top score in their team’s comfortable win over Castlegarth. Pocklington are matching them on points however, as Mum and daughter, Ruth and Rebecca Hill continued to flourish in their 62-46 win at Wigginton. Elsewhere York seconds edged a tight victory in a tense match against David Lloyd.

Pocklington logged their first win of the campaign in division 2, Andrea Bland and Fiona Lambert netting 31 games to see them home against Poppleton. Fulford returned to winning ways with a comfortable win at David Lloyd 2, it’s Rufforth who top the pile though as all three of their couples contributed fairly evenly in their 65-43 defeat of Starbeck. In the west of York derby, Boston Spa fought out a draw at local rivals Castlegarth.

Dunnington remain undefeated in division 3, this week easing past Boston Spa seconds 67-41. Jane Wallace returned from injury to team up with Pam Campbell and top score for Fulford as they hammered winless Bubwith. Meantime, Knareborough overcame Bishopthorpe and Wistow scraped past Copmanthorpe 55-53, aided by Ali Wortley and Lisa Hunter winning all their rounds.

Wilberfoss didn’t drop a rubber as they battered struggling Fulford 87-21, so remain top of division 5. Fran Critchley and Joy Craig bagged 34 games as David Lloyd thirds crushed Poppleton 2 80-28. Despite Nicky Georgiou and Emily Broadbent winning 24 games it wasn’t enough to prevent their New Earswick team falling to Copmanthorpe seconds.

Linda Malloy and Katy Sykes scored 26 games as Dunnington continued their unbeaten run in division 6, defeating Knaresborough 63-45. Vicky Wrigley and Carole Withers took 29 games for Rufforth, who are in second place, as they pasted David Lloyd 81-27.

Dunnington 4 made it a clean sweep for all the Dunnington teams as they scraped past Copmanthorpe 55-53 in division 7. Jill Hodges and Chris Drury were in form for Sheriff Hutton netting 28 games as they overcame Rufforth 74-34 and so recorded their first win of the season. Appleton dropped down the table after failing to field a team against Wilberfoss.

The top two teams in division 3 of the Fulford Ladies Invitation Tennis League met last weekend, with Dunnington’s Nicola Loten and Joyce Rhodes bagging 33 games to top the scoring charts across the league and see their team home to a comfortable 70-38 victory against Copmanthorpe. Fulford 2’s good start to the season continued as they breezed past Boston Spa 76-32. Bishopthorpe logged their first win of the campaign defeating struggling Bubwith 69-39, whilst Arina Fjordova and Natasha Quigley were unbeaten for Knaresborough as they dispatched Wistow 63-45.

Sue Jacklin and Rachel Hill netted 32 games in Castlegarth’s division 1 victory over Wigginton. David Lloyd look like they’ve a long way to go before they can compete with the big guns at the top level as they crashed to an 82-26 defeat against reigning champions York. Pocklington and Dunnington recorded closer victories over Bishopthorpe and York seconds respectively.

Sue Yoward and Christine Place were in form for Rufforth as they hammered Pocklington in division 2. Castlegarth ended Fulford’s unbeaten run, defeating them 63-45, whilst David Lloyd inflicted more misery on Poppleton, beating them 69-39. Di Lang and Alison White were undefeated as Starbeck overcame Boston Spa 59-49.

Riccall bagged their first win of the season in division 4, Michelle Hall and Rachel Clark netting 32 games in their 66-42 defeat of Tollerton. Elsewhere Cliffe and Heworth were winners over Sutton and Appleton respectively.

New Earswick won every rubber in their division 5 demolition of Poppleton 3. Clare Fuller and Lynda Withers helped Copmanthorpe 2 to a 66-42 win against Fulford 3. The two in-form teams of the division, Wilberfoss and David Lloyd couldn’t be separated as they drew their match.

Dunnington 3 top division 6 and remain unbeaten after their 58-50 win at Rufforth. Lorraine Bishop and Sarah Lee Neeson scored 32 games as Cawood annihilated David Lloyd 4. York 3 just missed out against Knaresborough, going down 53-55.

Emma Davis and Alyson Ellershaw’s 28 games proved invaluable in Copmanthorpe’s division 7 win over basement club Sheriff Hutton. Carol Martin and Ann Murray led the way for Dunnington as they defeated Wilberfoss. It’s Stamford Bridge who top the table though after a comprehensive victory over a depleted Appleton Roebuck side.

As the Fulford Ladies Invitational Tennis League begins to take shape following the first few matches, division 1 already has a familiar look to it. York 1 top the table after beating their team mates, York seconds, 75-33. Having previously beaten Dunnington, they are already the only unbeaten side in the division. Despite racking up 29 games, Ellie Page and Laura Rhodes couldn’t lead Bishopthorpe to victory as they fell to a 55-53 defeat against Castlegarth. Pocklington and Dunnington have both made strong starts, beating David Lloyd and Wigginton respectively to keep in touch at the top of the table.

David Lloyd seconds have started life well in division 2, Lisa Garland and Liz Taylor scored 26 games in their team’s 63-45 win over Boston Spa. Rufforth  scraped past Castlegarth 2 57-51, whilst Starbeck logged their first win of the campaign against a depleted Pocklington side. Sadly, Poppleton look like a club in decline as they failed to field a team against Fulford.

Dunnington 2 and Copmanthorpe head up division 3, Cop’s Rhian Scott and Laura Simpson took 27 games as their team breezed past Bubwith 71-37. Meanwhile, Dunnington overcame Knaresborough 59-49. Lisa Hunter and Sheena Oddy were in form for Wistow as they overcame Boston Spa, whilst Fulford 2 inflicted a 63-45 defeat on Bishopthorpe 2.

Mary Smith and Jane Pemberton won all their rubbers to lead Cliffe to victory at Tollerton in division 4. Sutton scored their first win of the season against Appleton and Sandra Burley and Catherine Field netted 27 games for Wig 2 to peg back high flying Heworth and claim a 69-39 win.

Poppleton 3 recorded a tight victory over Fulford in divison 5, with Kate Harpin and Sue Jones top scoring for Popp. Their second team didn’t fare as well though, going down to a solid Wilberfoss team performance, as all three of their couples took at least twenty games. Maxine Gordon and Madalena Moverley starred for David Lloyd 3 in their team’s 73-35 defeat of Copmanthorpe 2.

In division 6 Dunnington 3 beat Cawood 55-53, aided by a 22 game haul from Judith Peeke-Vout and Sarah Granville. Rufforth 2 had a big win at York 3, who despite their wealth of players, crashed to a 83-25 defeat.

Kim Lees and Nicola Browne were undefeated as Stamford Bridge recorded a 62-46 victory at Dunnington in division 7. Wilberfoss beat Sheriff Hutton 63-45, whilst Rufforth 3 continued their unbeaten run, defeating Copmanthorpe 65-43.
