Victorious Captains with their League Trophies
York notched up their sixth consecutive division 1 title as they were crowned champions of the Fulford Ladies Invitational Tennis League. Finishing nine points clear of runners up Pocklington, they were the only team throughout the league to finish the season undefeated.
Fulford headed up division 2 so will return to the top flight after just one season. Starbeck’s strong second half of the season sees them promoted alongside Fulford to the top tier.
Long term division 3 leaders, Dunnington, dominated their league to take the title and so bounce straight back up to division 2, as do runners up, Wistow.
Cliffe took the division 4 title, helped by a strong run at the end of the season. Tollerton just pipped Wigginton to the second promotion place.
David Lloyd 3 won the division 5 crown, just a point ahead of Wilberfoss, both teams finishing comfortably ahead of the chasing pack.
Dunnington and Cawood will be promoted from division 6, the former as champions after losing only a couple of matches all season.
Stamford Bridge wrapped up the division 7 title and will be joined in division 6 by Sheriff Hutton, who took the second promotion slot on games difference.
The League also recognized the top scoring players from each division. These were Wendy Stirke (York 1) – 339 games, Kate Lewis (Rufforth) – 317, Maggie Zhang (Copmanthorpe 1) – 301, Teena Gallon (Tollerton) – 290, Gerry Screeton (Wilberfoss 1) – 282, Linda Molloy (Dunnington 3) – 246 and Ann Murray (Dunnington 4) – 212.
Wendy Stirke won the Terry Haw trophy which is awarded to the player who won the most games in the league.
